Wer war Mr Shakspeares Ghostwriter?

Insgesamt sollen bereits ca. 25 Personen in der Fachliteratur als mögliche Ghostwriter für Mr Shakspeare genannt worden sein, darunter etwa auch Königin Elizabeth I. Die Liste der ernsthaften Kandidaten für ein solches Ghostwriting umfasst allerdings nur drei Namen.

Schon zu Lebzeiten von Mr Shakspeare wurde der Verdacht geäußert, dass zumindest zwei Stücke von Francis Bacon stammen. Ab Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde dieser Autor dann ernsthaft als Ghostwriter für das gesamte Werk von Shakespeare diskutiert. Bacon war zu Shakespeare Zeit ein berühmter Politiker, Wissenschaftler und Philosoph, der wichtige politische Ämter innehatte. Von ihm stammt auch ein bedeutendes wissenschaftstheoretisches Werk (Novum Organum). Allerdings ist er nicht als Ghostwriter bekannt geworden. Für Bacon sprechen aber stilistische Ähnlichkeiten zwischen seinen Schriften und Shakespeares Theaterstücken. Wichtig wurden für diese Theorie vor allem Bacons Notizbücher, deren Einträge sich in manchen Fällen in ähnlicher Form bei Shakespeare finden lassen. Als schlüssige Beweise für ein Ghostwriting können alle diese Hinweise jedoch nicht gelten. Man kann jedoch sagen, dass Bacon der Ghostwriter Shakespeares sein hätte können, was die Gelehrsamkeit und die Vertrautheit mit der Literatur und den Sitten der Oberschicht angeht.

Das Gleiche gilt im Prinzip auch für einen Konkurrenten Shakespeares, den Dramatiker und Dichter Christopher Marlowe, der ebenfalls in den Verdacht als Ghostwriter hinter Mr. Shakspeare geriet..Dessen Faust-Drama beginnt mit folgendem Monolog:

Settle thy studies Faustus, and begin

To sound the depth of that thou wilt professe,

Having commenc'd, be a Divine in shew,

Yet levell at the end of every Art,

And live and die in Aristotles workes.

Sweet Analitikes, tis thou hast ravisht me,

Bene disserere est finis logices.

Is to dispute well Logickes chiefest end?

Affoords this Art no greater miracle?

Then read no more, thou hast attain'd that end;

A greater subject fitteth Faustus wit:

Bid on kai me on farewell, Galen come:

Seeing ubi desinit philosophus, ibi incipit medicus.

Be a Phisitian Faustus, heape up gold,

And be eterniz'd for some wondrous cure:

Summum bonum medicinæ sanitas,

The end of Physicke is our bodies health:

Why Faustus, hast thou not attain'd that end?

Is not thy common talke sound Aphorismes?

Wherby whole Cities have escap't the plague,

And thousand desperate maladies beene cur'd?

Yet art thou still but Faustus, and a man.

Couldst thou make men to live eternally,

Or being dead, raise them to life againe,

Then this profession were to be esteem'd.
